Consultation underway for Far North Queensland wind farm

Information centre at 55 Grigg Street, Ravenshoe

Local people have the chance to find out more and give their view on a proposed new wind farm for Far North Queensland.

RATCH-Australia is investigating the potential of land 13km north of Ravenshoe to host a wind farm comprising 18 turbines.

Tablelands Regional Council originally granted development approval for the High Road Wind Farm in 2011 but the project was not built.

Wind turbine technology has advanced since then and RATCH-Australia is now considering applying to the Queensland Government for permission to build turbines measuring up to 150m to the tip of the blades.

Not only would the wind farm be capable of generating a significant quantity of safe, clean renewable electricity, but RATCH-Australia will also establish a community fund worth $75,000 per year to support local projects and initiatives if the project is built.

There would also be opportunities for local businesses to win valuable contracts and for local people to secure jobs. During construction for the Mount Emerald Wind Farm outside Walkamin, which is larger than this proposal, more than 1,000 people were signed on to the project with more than 300 workers on site at the busiest time.
