Mount Emerald Wind Farm Community Open Day

Local people have the chance to experience the reality of wind power up close when Mount Emerald Wind Farm throws open its gates on Saturday 10 August.

Visitors will be able to have a close look at a turbine and take a tour of the wind farm, as well as see a video showing how the project was built.

Buses will collect visitors from Walkamin Community and Sports Club in Kurrajong Road between 9am and 4pm.

The wind farm will be operational and generating electricity so all visitors must book a place in advance and access to the site will be by bus only.

The tour is expected to take around two hours. Refreshments will be laid on by Walkamin State School’s P&C volunteers.

Entry is free of charge but gold coin donations to support the P&C association would be appreciated.

Paul McDonald, RATCH-Australia’s site manager for Mount Emerald Wind Farm, said: “We receive lots of requests from people hoping to get a closer look at the site so we are very pleased to be able to provide this opportunity.

“Seeing and hearing the turbines up close is a great way to understand how they operate.”

“We look forward to meeting as many people as possible and answering as many questions as we can.”

There’s also still time for local groups to apply for a grant from the wind farm community fund. Projects or initiatives located within a 50km radius of the wind farm are eligible for funding.

Check the guidelines for applicants on the project website at: www.mtemeraldwindfarm.com.au
