Beginning of operationsLocated near the wheatbelt town of Dandaragan, 175 kilometres north of Perth, the Yandin Wind Farm is a RATCH-Australia and Alinta Energy investment, managed by Alinta Energy.
With a capacity factor of around 50 per cent, Yandin powers the equivalent of approximately 200,000 households across Western Australia each year.
It comprises 51 turbines with hub heights of 105 metres to maximise performance in the site's specific wind conditions.
Yandin is connected to Western Power’s 330 kV electricity network via a new 10km transmission line and terminal station, owned and operated by Western Power.
In 2021, the turbines were among the biggest ever installed in Australia. At their highest point, the tip blades reach 180m into the air, and the rotor diameter is 150m.
Despite their size, the turbines’ footprint occupies just 0.03 per cent of the project site, enabling farms to continue grazing or cropping activities.
