About the project

Snapper Point Power Station provides firming energy to support South Australia’s transition to renewable energy sources.

It is located at Outer Harbour on the Lefevre Peninsula, approximately 22 km north-west of Adelaide, South Australia.

In August 2019, a long-term agreement was signed with the Government of South Australia to lease and operate five GE TM-2500 mobile aero-derivative gas turbines, each with a net output of 30.8 MW.

Construction began in 2020, and the plant started operations on 10 June 2022. Power generated by the project is sold directly into the electricity market.

Snapper Point also supports electricity off-take contracts from the existing 212 MW Lincoln Gap Wind Farm, near Port Augusta, and its planned 278 MW expansion.
